Comic Convention

The first FanCon was held in 2016 to great success, and has now established itself as a must-attend event on the South African geek calendar. The multi day event is usually held during the April/May period and the show is an energetic and vibrant showcase of all things pop culture. Visitors to FanCon can expect an entertaining and lively experience, where every aspect of comics, pop culture, and geekdom in general will find expression in a diverse range of activities, including South Africa's biggest artist alley, featuring local, national, and international comic book talent. Attendees can interact with creators and artists, purchase comics, prints, original artwork, and commission art pieces. The show typically features an exhibition hall filled with exhibitors and vendors selling all manner of geek products and merchandise; a jam-packed panel programme of talks, discussions and presentations involving the show's local and international guests and speakers; meet & greet and signing sessions with guests; comic launches; a variety of gaming activities; interactive workshops and demonstrations; stage performances; exhibits and displays; as well as the popular daily geek quiz, where visitors can participate and stand a chance to win an awesome range of cool prizes. A major highlight every year are the cosplay activities, including cosplay workshops and panel talks, photo opportunities with cosplayers, and a cosplay masquerade and competition where entrants stand a chance to score prizes in cash and kind. A unique attraction are of course the international guests that FanCon brings to our shores every year, professionals and often award-winning talent in the comic book industry, as well as renowned and top class cosplayers. Fans have a rare opportunity to interact with these guests, including meet & greet sessions, photo opportunities, have items autographed, and pose questions directly to them in panel and interview sessions.
