Final guests confirmed for GlassCityCon 2011
GlassCityCon Welcomes Doug SmithTOLEDO, OH - June 15, 2011 - GlassCityCon, the Toledo, Ohio, area's premier anime and Japanese culture gathering, is pleased to announce its third-annual FREE admission event to be held on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 at the Toledo campus Owens Community College (in the AV/CC, Math/Science, SHAC and Performing Arts complex on Biniker Road) and welcomes anime voice actor and artist Doug Smith to the 2011 event.
Smith is a recognized voice actor for a number of anime roles from ADV and FUNimation, most notably, the lead character of Kintaro Oe in Goldenboy. As a freelance artist, Smith's work has been used in multiple media such as CD album covers, comics, posters and more. Currently, Smith is doing illustrations and assisting with the upcoming online video game Fantasy Kingdoms and is the art director for the non-profit organization Voices For, which works with people in the anime/manga industry to create products to sell for charity.
GlassCityCon is also proud to announce it will feature Classic l337 podcast, the band mini-GAME as well as ... And Sewing is Half the Battle as guests. Classic l337, originally based out of Findlay, will join the video game programming for the convention. The Classic l337 weekly podcast covers a mix of classic and modern games and the duo of Scott and Tony will be on hand to record live at GlassCityCon. The video game and anime cover band mini-GAME was founded in 2006 and features a selection of various students from Bowling Green State University. The full ensemble is usually around 50 students, but those living in the area for the summer semester will be on hand at the con to perform pieces from Gundam, Bleach, Portal and more. The cosplay group ... And Sewing is Half the Battle will also be in attendance to showcase their work and host panels. The group is based out of Indianapolis and travels to a number of high-profile anime cons, including Anime Central and Ohayocon.
Along with anime screenings, Japanese video gaming, Japanese culture panels, an electronic music dance and more, this FREE ADMISSION event will also be host to voice actor Robert Axelrod, voice actress Tiffany Grant, anime producer Matt Greenfield, anime columnist John Oppliger, local kimono specialist Kerry Porter, convention rave artist DJ_TKR, soloist Gavin Goszka, video game cover rock band Year 200X, featured GarasuNoShiCon artists Alex Heberling and KO Okami, cosplay and musical group Salad Time Soldiers, fire artist Gwydion independent film company Linkwise Productions and independent video game developers Galloping Ghost Studios and Distant Star Games.
Again, GlassCityCon will be held July 9 and 10 at Owens Community College and will not only be featuring our esteemed guests, but also various events such as an electronic music dance, cosplay competition, a fire show held by our mascot and special guest Gwydion (Anthony Doherty) and more. Of course, anime screenings will be running throughout the day and attendees that wish to be hands-on with the Japanese culture can take part in various information and entertainment panels, enjoy Japanese snacks and food at the snack bar, shop with a number of vendors and featured artists that will be selling Japanese-related goods and play video games that have never been released in the U.S. Other feature attractions include tabletop and card-based gaming and the live-action role playing game Eaten Alive, which puts players through an entire building filled with zombies, makes a return for 2010.
